On Sunday, August 16, 2026, God has suddenly called Victor Szwez, the Board President of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Phoenix to His side—taking from us a rare, extraordinary soul far too soon. Victor lived his life with an unwavering sense of purpose, rooted deeply in his heritage and his faith. Raised in a home defined by its love for Ukraine and the Church, he carried those values into everything he did, serving as a pillar of wisdom, calm and unity for our community in Arizona.

As President of our Church, Victor poured his soul into building a true sanctuary for us all. He worked tirelessly to ensure that every person who walked through those doors had a sacred place to pray and feel the warm embrace of home. When Victor led the church choir, his magnificent voice filled the sanctuary with profound grace and beauty, lifting our spirits and bringing us closer to God. 

Victor’s heart beat for Ukraine. He championed her cause with quiet humility, never seeking praise or recognition for his generosity. Whether he was donating to life-saving causes or lending his voice to the media to ensure the world never forgot Ukraine, he acted out of pure, selfless love. 

Yet, as great a leader as he was to our community, his greatest devotion was always to his family. Victor was a cherished son, a steadfast brother, a devoted husband of over thirty-eight years, a loving father, and an adored grandfather. Victor was a true friend to many people blessed enough to know him. 

Though his passing leaves a void that can never be filled, his legacy of faith, kindness, joyful spirit, guiding insight, and deep warmth will remain forever in our hearts. May his memory be eternal.
